Very thorough post! Thank you for the great explanation of the industry.

Mystery shopping is an excellent tool to monitor and improve customer service. A great mystery shopper needs to be unobtrusive and objective, with a great eye for detail. Strong writing skills are also a plus.

Watch out for scams when starting out in the business though – don’t register with sites asking for money upfront. The best sites to find legitimate mystery shopping opportunities are the Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA) at http://www.mysteryshop.org and Jobslinger at http://www.jobslinger.com . Both sites have job boards and contact information for legitimate companies.
